Old Roommates
Sid and Ricky were roommates all four years at The Citadel. They were inseparable and the best of friends since knob year. They were now about 10 years away from retirement. Their class reunion tailgate tent was awash with friendly chatter amongst old friends and the daring missions at mess they had accomplished knob year.
Modern Troubles
Sid and Ricky then found themselves engaged in a conversation filled with concern about their ability to accomplish their retirement goals because of so many economic factors going the wrong way at the time. Taxes, inflation and COVID were all a concern. Sid noticed that some of their older friends who were already retired just seemed to have a better retirement lifestyle than others.
Two Neighbors
“I’ve got two neighbors. And I definitely don’t want to be like one of them”, said Sid.
“What do you mean?”, replied Ricky.
“Well, …….they both started retirement with the same amount of money. And, what blows me away is that they are in completely different situations!”
A Difference
Sid continued, “ Warren and Chris both have the same amount of money deposited in their bank accounts every month for retirement. But, Warren’s deposit is tax exempt”.
“Then, get this. Both Warren and Chris receive the same amount of Social Security every month. But, somehow, Warren pays no income tax on his Social Security……but, Chris DOES!
“On top of all that…..Warren and Chris both have Medicare…….But, Chris pays almost 33% more in premium….for the same benefit!
“I’ve been reading a lot about those kinds of problems that retirees have once they get to retirement. Have you asked Warren what he is doing differently?”, Ricky asked.
“You bet I did. It didn’t make a whole lot of sense at first because he told me he was just following the road map.” Sid Replied.
“Following the road map? What is that supposed to mean?”
“Well, Warren sat me down and explained that he is following a simple, time-tested financial process called the “Higher Retirement Cash Flow Road Map” where he learned that where you withdrawal your retirement money can set in motion a domino effect of unintended and unexpected consequences.”
